Blueberries for the Rainbow by Hazel Fattorusso
It’s just a normal morning for mums Loretta and Catherine, until Loretta suddenly, and unexpectedly, disappears in the middle of Catherine’s visit, leaving behind her four-month-old baby. Can the three people closest to Loretta work why she left her perfect life, perfect husband and two perfect children, before it’s too late?
This play explores the themes of postnatal depression, the thick blanket of silence that continues to surround it, and the impact this has on pre and postnatal mothers. With a small cast of four, the play jumps back through time to see what has happened in the 402 days since Loretta conceived her second child, which may have lead to this catastrophic event. And how, through societal changes, more awareness and better care for mothers, this may have been prevented.
Trigger warnings: Themes of post-natal depression and suicide.
