Get ready for R Online Read#17 OUR GREAT FRIEND The new stage play by Gregory Vines- Set in 1957 in a South Wales mining town. Facing overwhelming skepticism, sisters Gloria and Nance set out to make the annual Miners Eisteddfod of 1957 a success. The men in their life, the National Union of Mine workers, and their community have major doubts in their abilities to pull it off. However, the sisters manage to enlist US stage and screen actor and Civil Rights campaigner Paul Robeson, known to all the South Wales Miners as 'Our Great Friend'. Based on true events and tackling subjects such as solidarity, the role of women in the 20th century and finding purpose after grief. Join in our online Zoom call in which participants will be invited to read this two act play together OR just sit back and listen from the comfort of your own home. The reading will be followed by a thought sharing session and opportunity to ask the writer about their work. From 13:00-15:30 pm (GMT) on Sunday 5th of December . For this session we will ask for a £1.50 booking fee, which will confirm your spot and cover admin costs.
