R ONLINE READ #13
An online reading of the play 'DECOMMISSIONED' By Molly Anne Sweeney
Service Description
We are so excited for R Online Read#13, this time with the new one act play 'Decommissioned' By Molly Anne Sweeney This deeply interesting play has a wonderful mix of theatre styles while tackling the very real issue of climate change. Delving deep into British culture, village life and reflecting upon the opinions of the different generations. Gwen returns to the sleepy seaside village she grew up in, bringing devastating news: the village is to be ‘decommissioned’ due to climate change. Sea level rise means it will disappear unless they spend untold amounts of money on flood defenses – which the government aren’t prepared to spend. This means that the village will be returned to the sea: the houses, the pubs, the model railway will be dismantled and that will be that. For the people that live there, there will be no compensation and there is no recourse. The village is doomed. Join in our online Zoom call in which participants will be invited to read this new play together OR just sit back and listen from the comfort of your own home. The reading will be followed by a thought sharing session and opportunity to ask the writer about their work. From 18:00-20:30 (BST) on Wednesday the 25th of August. For this session we will ask for a £1.50 booking fee, which will confirm your spot and cover admin costs.
